What is Industrial Design?

Industrial designers develop products for manufacture. Industrial Design is sometimes referred to as Product Design. The products that are designed are often Mass Produced.

Industrial Design focuses on both the functional and aesthetic aspects of a product and pays particular attention to Ergonomics. Industrial Designers prepare models and prototypes to demonstrate and test products.

Industrial Designers often work as part of a product development team. While other specialists such as electronic and mechanical engineers work on circuit boards and mechanical mechanisms the Industrial Designer may be working on the overall structure of the product, its appearance and the way in which the user will operate it.
