Searching with Queries

A Query is a way of searching a Database using specific criteria. Below are some examples:

Police officers ued their database on Criminals to search for someone who Burgled a house in Coorparoo. An eye witness saw a young blond man in a Blue Ford Falcon leaving the scene of the crime. They managed to get a photo that showed the first three letters of the number plate LBV.

The Police searched for any Criminals who had been previously arrested for Burglary, were Blond, between the ages of 20 and 40 and drove a Blue Car with number plate starting LBV.

They consequently found and arrested the man!

A dating website got a call from a 25 year old lady that wanted to meet someone to go out on a date with. They asked her a little bit about herself and then used these details to create a search Query to find a suitable match.

The lady said that she liked Animals, read Stephen King Novels, loved going to the cinema and enjoyed Karaoke. The dating website staff searched their website, using these same pieces of information as their search criteria and came up with 7 matches. The lady is now deciding which candidate she would like to meet first.

The manager at Woolworths in Carindale would like to reward their best customers with some half price vouchers for a new range of Yoghurts that they have started selling. His staff created a search Query on their customer database, using the information they had gained through their Reward Cards system.

They searched for anyone who had been to the store every week for the last two months and on average spent more than $200 dollars on each visit. The search found 250 people and they were each emailed the vouchers, using the email adresses that were linked to them on the database.
