Welcome to your micro:bit

Hello!

In this unit you are going develop your ability to code using physical computing.

Physical computing means building interactive physical systems by the use of software and hardware that can sense and respond to the analog world.

The physical device you will be using is a BBC micro:bit. The micro:bit is a handheld, programmable micro-computer that can be used for all sorts of cool creations, from robots to musical instruments – the possibilities are endless.

Easy Peasy

The Micro:bit is a great way to learn the basics of programming and computer science. We will be using an application called MakeCode for micro:bit by Microsoft.

The MakeCode App is a block-based coding environment and a powerful and intuitive way to make the Micro:bit react to all sorts of input, using fundamental coding concepts such as iteration, conditional statements, and variables.

Assessment

You will learn how to program your micro:bit by completing activities and tasks. As you complete them you must document your progress in your 'Micro:bit Journal'. This will provide your teacher with evidence of your learning.

Save and rename the following document to your OneDrive Documents folder- Micro:bit Journal

As you progress through tasks make sure you carefully complete your Journal, as this be a major piece of your assessment.

NOTE: You need to Share your Journal with your teacher so he can check your progress. The process for sharing your Journal is shown below.
